Installed price for a 200L domestic heat pump typically lands between R28,000 and R45,000 in 2026 — the unit itself is R18,000–R28,000, with the balance covering the storage tank, plumbing, electrical CoC and commissioning. Imported COP-rated brands sit at the top of that band; locally-assembled units at the bottom. Ask the installer to break out unit, install and CoC as separate lines on the quote.

Modern inverter-driven heat pumps will deliver useful heat down to around -5°C ambient, but the Coefficient of Performance drops sharply below 7°C — a unit that runs at COP 4.5 in summer might be at COP 2.2 on a frosty Highveld morning. A correctly sized system retains a resistive backup element for the worst week of the year, which an SAQCC-registered installer will commission and document on the handover sheet.

Confirm the current cap with your accountant before relying on the rebate for payback math, because the criteria have shifted twice since launch and another adjustment is expected in the 2026 budget.
