Electrical work is one of the few trades where the paperwork decides whether you may legally hand the job over at all - and where the person who BUYS the work carries a duty too. This checks the registrations, the certificate, the solar registration almost everyone gets wrong, and whether your rates cover a call-out.

  • The certificate does not expire every two years

    That rule is about transferring property, and the industry body warns against contractors who push bi-annual renewals. What does need a certificate is any alteration - including solar.

  • If you own or let the building, the duty is yours too

    The regulations require every user or lessor to hold a valid certificate of compliance and produce it on request. Most buyers of electrical work have never been told that.

  • Solar registration is not about feeding back

    It is triggered by having a grid connection and by installed capacity, not by whether you export. 'I don't feed back so I don't need to register' is the most common mistake in SA rooftop solar.
